Special Units

Bicycle Unit

The police bicycle unit is deployed at special events and during random patrols. The unit uses Trek mountain bikes. All officers are certified through the International Police Mountain Bike Association for a 32 hour basic police cyclist class. The unit has a certified IPMBA Instructor and Maintenance Officer and a basic cyclist class is hosted every year in mid October. The bike unit is active in the community with bicycle advocates, bike fairs and rodeos on education, and general patrol.

Motorcycle Unit
The Sahuarita Police Department currently has a one traffic officer. The traffic officer operates a 2007 Harley Davidson Motorcycle and enforces traffic and responds to Motor Vehicle Collisions. The motor officer has received nearly 200 hours of advanced training in accident investigation, measuring, mapping, and damage analysis.
School Resource Officer
In partnership with the Sahuarita Unified School District the Sahuarita Police Department has one police officer assigned to serve as a school resource officer. Officer Mike Blevins is currently serving as the SRO and teaches the Street Law class at Sahuarita High School which is an elective offered to students. The class covers many aspects of law and creates civic mindedness. In this class students are introduced to many careers in public safety with guest speakers. Student also get to learn about forensic investigation and participate in mock trials at the Sahuarita Municipal Court. Aside from teaching, Officer Blevins responds to law enforcement calls for service at the schools, assists the patrol and detectives division with follow up investigations involving juveniles, and act as a liaison between the school district and police department.

Police Chaplain

The Sahuarita Police Chaplaincy program exists to enhance programs already in existence that focus on the well being of department employees. The chaplain program provides assistance in times of crises and during critical incidents and religious services to department members who request it.
The Sahuarita Police Department currently has one chaplain, Officer Mike Blevins who is an ordained Christian Church Minister and a Senior Chaplain with the International Conference of Police Chaplains where he has been a member since 1997. Chaplain Blevins can be contacted: (520)344-7000 or
