Sahuarita Sends Paper, Pills, and E-waste Packing

In one of ADEQ’s best ongoing recycling collaborations around the state, more than 400 vehicles turned out on March 3, for the Town of Sahuarita’s recycling event.  Residents from all over Pima County recycled electronic waste, shredded paper documents, and disposed of their unused and expired medical pills.

Sahuarita Town staff were assisted by VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service), fire fighters and fire department volunteers, and ADEQ volunteers. In addition to the recycling opportunities at stations set up around the huge lot, area residents were also offered free blood pressure tests, gun locks, light bulbs, and coupons to local businesses.

Nearly six tons of electronics waste (11,992 pounds) was collected by E-Waste Harvesters of Phoenix, more than two tons (4,260 pounds) of documents were shredded by BioPappel of Phoenix and Sahuarita uniformed authorities took in more than 119 pounds of unused and expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines.
