"My grandson and I were fishing at the Rancho Sahuarita Lake one day after school and he was thrilled to make a BIG catch. He asked me if I could email this picture to you to see if it could make the newsletter for May. He is staying here until school ends and will be moving to Hawaii with his family. Town of Sahuarita Honors Its Many Volunteers

Over 100 people joined in the “Volunteer Round-up” at Sahuarita Town Hall on Thursday, April 19.  The Town of Sahuarita celebrated the contributions of its almost 300 volunteers who provide valuable service to the community including members of boards and commissions, volunteers with specific Town Departments, Adopt-a-Road and Adopt-a-Wash volunteers.

Congratulations to Chuck Hill: Bicycle Advocate of the Year

Chuck Hill, Santa Cruz Valley Bicycle Advocate Committee,  was named Bicycle Advocate of the Year by the Pima-Tucson Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) . He is best known for organizing the Green-Valley Sahuarita Ride of Silence for the past five years. This year’s Ride of Silence will be May 16,  a slow-paced group ride to remember those who have been killed or injured while riding their bicycles.  Chuck is also an active member of the Southern Arizona Mountain Bike Association.

Nature and Heritage Festival Scheduled for May 3-6

Discover the best birding spots in the Santa Cruz Valley, explore a beautiful 300-year-old Spanish mission, tour the U.S.-Mexican borderlands with experts, and watch exciting team roping events during the Nature and Heritage Festival held the first week in May. This is a new event to celebrate  International Migratory Bird Day and the rich heritage of the Santa Cruz River Valley in the U.S. and Mexico.

 

Food Bank’s Annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive is May 12

The Green Valley-Sahuarita Community Food Bank invites all Sahuarita residents to leave canned or packaged food by their mail box on Saturday, May 12. This is part of a nationwide food collection effort when your letter carrier participates in a drive to collect food for those residents in our area who find it difficult to make their dollars stretch to meet minimum food needs.
